Photo #219/365: Time to Make Welcome Cards!

Teachers start back to school two weeks from today, so it was time to design and make my Welcome to 4th Grade cards for this year. I decided to go back to a dog theme, so I used my Stampin Up dog stamps combined with the Printshop program on my computer.

Ever since I got into all the blogging and technology, I haven't used my stamping or scrapbooking supplies much. That's a shame, because when I do sit down to do it, I have a lot of fun. That is, after I get all the junk moved off of my crafting table.

Photos 1 thru 4/365: A New Challenge

It's the beginning of a new year and a new challenge. After completing the 2010/365 Photo Challenge, I knew that I wanted to continue with a photo blog. It has had a very positive impact on my life. At first I thought, maybe a would just post a picture or two each week, but when people on Twitter began talking about taking on the 365 Challenge for 2011, I knew that I wanted to be part of it again.

I am trying a few new things this year. I'm posting my photos to a website called Shuttercal.com I also continue to post my photos to Flickr. While those are fun ways to share my photos, for me the writing that went with it is an important part of this photo challenge. I debated whether to start a new blog, but decided to keep everything in one place and continue with this same blog. You will notice that I have slightly modified the blog name. So here we go again! I can't seem to help myself. Here are my first four photos of the year.

Photo #1: Thank You Cards

I had a wonderful Christmas vacation, and I really did take a vacation from school. In spite of all my good intentions, I did not touch any of the work I brought home. On the last day before vacation, I took eight thank you cards to school with me, which was not nearly enough to respond to all the gifts I received. Instead I brought the presents home with the idea that I would open them on Christmas morning and write a thank you card as I opened each one. That didn't happen. So on New Years day, I made cards and finally got around to writing them.

Photo #2: I Love Dogs

This little sculpture and the painted box that it's sitting on, was one of the gifts I received. It is a well known fact to all my students that I am a dog lover. They can relate to this, because most kids love dogs too!

Photo #3: Loyal

Photo #4: Fly Like an Eagle

Photo 3 and 4 are parts of the table in our school library. This table was painted by Sticks Furniture, and it was purchased close to twenty years ago, as a memorial to one of our students who was hit and killed by a car.

Photo #226: Welcome Cards

This is my post for yesterday, Saturday, August 14.

There is only one more week of summer vacation, and then it's back to school. I'm working on my list of tasks to be completed, before teachers start back on August 23rd. One of the things all the classroom teacher's do in my building is to send a welcome to school card or letter to each of our students.

I always make my cards. Sometimes I use my rubber stamps to design the front of the card. For the past two years, I've opted for the computer. Last year I put a Wordle of the kids names on the front. This year I made a word cloud using the website, Image Chef. I create my cards, and many other things for my classroom, using the program, The Print Shop, by Broderbund.

So, get ready, kids! The cards are in the mail. It's almost time for school.
