Tulips

We had a pretty easy winter around here, relatively speaking.  Even so, it is such a treat to see all the beautiful flowers blooming.  These tulips were growing in front of school today.  Beautiful red tulips, the sun was shining, and I even got my mower started for the first time this season.  In fact it started on the first pull.  What a wonderful day!  Mowing wasn't that much fun, but at least the mower started and everything else was good.

Photo #136/365: Tulips With a Yellow Center

Okay it's late and I haven't done my photo for today. Here is one more photo of tulips from Pella. There were so many beautiful flowers there.

Photo #132/365: Tulip Diversity

I really liked this tulip bed which was full of just about every variety of tulip that you could imagine all planted together in the same bed. What a beautiful array of color!

Photo #127/365: Pella Tulip Time

After thirty years of living in Des Moines, I finally made it to Pella for the tulip festival. Pella, Iowa is only forty miles southeast of Des Moines, but May is such a busy time, that I never seem to make it down there. That is until this year, and what a fantastic time to go. The sun was shining and the temperatures were perfect.

Even though I worked in the morning, Mom and I drove down and arrived early enough to catch the parade. We parked at Vermeer Manufacturing and rode a school bus to the center of Pella. We immediately began seeing people dressed in Dutch garb, and you can't forget about the windmills.

The parade starts out with the scrubbers, sweeping and washing down the street.

I loved the bands and the floats, but I enjoyed seeing the children dressed in their Dutch costumes the most. These children were from Pella Elementary School.

And of course, then there are the tulips, gorgeous in all sizes and colors!

Photo #121/365: Red Tulips

After dropping and breaking my camera yesterday, I was pretty upset. I use my camera almost everyday. I managed to take a few photos with my phone, but it's difficult to see what you're doing, and it doesn't have the flexibility of a nice camera. On the other hand, I did figure out how to crop a photo on my Droid. Fortunately my mom has loaned me her camera for awhile. It is a Cannon Power Shot. I am still trying to figure it out. I took this photo in her back yard. It was the only one that was in focus, so I have some learning to do. Thanks, Mom!

Photo #112: Yellow Tulips

I stayed home sick today, so my photography consisted of hanging over the back fence and taking a picture of these yellow tulips in my neighbor's back yard. Between the flowering trees, and tulips I am really enjoying her yard, and it's a lot less work than me having to do anything myself.
