Snow Dogs

Gratitude for Today:

Just two days ago, I was walking at Copper Creek in 73 degree temperatures.  Today it is 27 and snowing.  These are my little snow dogs, who are anxious to come back in the house.  I spent the day subbing in third grade today.  I am so grateful to come home to these two little dogs and my cozy home.

Snow Flocked World

Winter made it's return on Thursday night.  We woke on Friday to a snow flocked world. It was really beautiful.

Snow

We finally had a real snow storm.  We got about four and a half inches here in Des Moines.  Originally I was planning to go out to Costco for groceries, but I opted instead, for Hy-Vee, just 3 blocks away.  It is very pretty.  As I look down the street today, mine is the only driveway that hasn't been shoveled, so I still have that ahead of me.

My alarm went off at 5:15 this morning, as it always does, and I immediately got on the computer to finish some work. I didn't get around to actually looking out the window until almost 6:30. I certainly was suprised to see that the ground was covered by almost two inches of snow. I guess I must have missed that forecast. Fortunately, by the time I came home from work tonight, it was all gone!

Today was our first snow day of the school year, and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. I stayed in bed until 8:15 this morning, and then remained in my pajamas until around 2:00 when I had to face the task of clearing the driveway. Dealing with the aftermath of the storm is the one downside to a snow day, and I thank God everytime my snowblower starts up and stays running until the job is done. This snowblower is truly "My Hero!"

School was dismissed early today because of the weather. At this time there are only a few inches of snow on the ground here in town, but the winds are picking up and the temperature is dropping. Just to our southeast people may get as much as twenty inches of snow.


It's not a fit night for bird nor beast, and I haven't seen any birds come by to dine at this bird feeder. It was so nice to come home early. I baked a batch of cookies, and I am snug and comfortable here at home.


I will not be setting foot out of the house until I have to, so any photos are taken from my door. This is the view from the back deck. Blizzard conditions are predicted until noon tomorrow, and I would love to have a snow day.

On my way to school this morning, I noticed this snow guitar in a yard just one block from my house. By the time I came by in the afternoon, it was overcast and beginning to get dark, so my photo does not do it justice. I thought it was a pretty impressive snow sculpture.

Photo #51: A Chilly Bench

This is the bench on my mother's patio. It looks like it will be a while before we can sit out there and enjoy the sunshine. I like the contrast between the black tulips on the bench back against the snow, which is now all the way up to the seat. We had more snow yesterday, and more is expected later on tonight. We have had 62 inches of snow so far this winter. Where are you spring?

This is snowy me after snow blowing the driveway and walks, yet AGAIN, this winter. We have had more than 50 inches of snow since the beginning of December. We added about 8 inches to our snow cover during the past two days. I am ready for spring!

Photo #25: Storm Damage

We are in the middle of yet another Iowa snow storm with strong winds, and blowing snow. However much I complain, I'm happy to say that at least this is not my car underneath this tree. It does, however, belong to a neighbor on the street behind me. This is storm damage from the ice storm last week. The tree split in half, and came down on the car. Before they have even had a chance to clean that up, we are now experiencing another blizzard. It's not as bad here in town, but the roads outside of the city are terrible. They have closed Interstate 35 between Ames and Clear Lake. I sent my student teacher home at 2:00, because he needed to drive 25 miles north to Iowa State in Ames. This is the worst winter we have had in a long time. I am hoping that we do not have another snow day tomorrow. We already have 6 days to make up.
